About Sky-Hi News
Since November 2, 1945, the Sky-Hi News has been the premier source for news and information in Grand County. Sky-Hi News is published every Wednesday and Friday with an average free distribution of 4,600 papers during the low season to 6,500 during peak season, serving the towns of Winter Park, Fraser, Tabernash, Granby, Grand Lake, Hot Sulphur Springs and Kremmling. Our coverage area includes the world-class ski area of Winter Park Resort, the nationally renowned mountain biking trail system of the Fraser Valley and the western gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park in Grand Lake.
Sky-Hi News has won several of the Swift Communication’s Newsroom Excellence Awards for non-dailies and numerous Colorado Press Association Better Newspaper Contest awards for editorial, advertising and graphic excellence.
We pride ourselves on providing balanced, insightful community coverage for local residents, second-home owners and visitors. Our website, SkyHiNews.com, is updated daily with the latest news, and takes advantage of many community interface tools such as interactive graphics, photo galleries, videos and extensive breaking news coverage.
Sky-Hi News also distributes a paid subscription publication, The Middle Park Times, which is distributed on Thursdays to about 1,000 readers via mail. The Middle Park Times started printing in 1881 and is among the oldest continuously operated newspapers in the state.
Newspaper glossary
All news organizations, including the Sky-Hi News, are divided into two departments: advertising and the newsroom. News coverage is created separately from advertising efforts. While newsrooms and advertising staff occasionally collaborate on business initiatives and projects, all news coverage decisions are made by the editor and independently of any revenue-based influence.
Ethics policy
Swift Communications and each of its member newsgathering organizations are committed to the highest ethical standards and require the same of their employees. The key values of integrity, objectivity, fairness, balance and accuracy are the basic tenets of our news operations in print and digital media.
The credibility of our news reports is one of our most valued assets. We proudly accept our role of reporting the news, and we aspire to meet the highest of standards in our news coverage.
We must maintain the public trust.

Crime reporting guidelines
Typically, the Sky-Hi News will name someone accused of a crime only after they have been formally charged. Juveniles will not be named unless they are certified to stand trial as an adult.
Every accusation or charge made against a person will be attributed to an arrest record, an affidavit of probable cause, a criminal complaint or a statement from law enforcement. The Sky-Hi News will attempt to reach out to the person charged with the crime or their lawyer for comment in the story.
When a person is named in a crime story, the Sky-Hi News commits to following that case through to its disposition and writing a story on the outcome.
The Sky-Hi News occasionally receives requests to remove names or mug shots from crime stories.
When reviewing those requests, we will rely on the courts and the legal process used to seal, expunge, or clear, records. People who have committed nonviolent crimes and successfully petitioned the courts to permanently delete records of their criminal cases can submit a request for the removal of their name or mug shot from a specific story.
The Sky-Hi News is owned by Swift Communications, LLC.
